PrintThe World Refining Association (WRA) announced the inaugural Egypt Downstream Summit & Exhibition is to be held under the patronage of His Excellency Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

Maxwell Thompson, Project Manager stated that, “with the Egyptian government committing $14.5 billion of investment into its refining and petrochemical sectors over the next 5 years, there has never been a better time to hold Egypt’s first refining and petrochemicals summit. Having hosted the summits advisory board meeting back in September in Cairo, it is clear that there is great optimism within the industry, but there are challenges that must be overcome too. We were  joined by twenty six of Egypt’s key downstream stakeholders including senior management from EGPC, Midor, Sidpec, Al Nasr Petroleum and many others as we spent over 4 hours discussing all of the key themes that will be addressed at the summit in February.”

With the ministry of petroleum putting the country’s downstream industry at the forefront of their plans to get the energy sector back on track, the event is the platform to attract investment, highlight opportunities and provide the critical gateway needed to support the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources quest of ‘unlocking Egypt’s energy potential.” Key topics to be discussed include: an update from EGPC on the future of Egypt’s refineries, a case study from Midor refinery Chairman and CEO Dr. Chemist Mohamed Abdel Aziz, a keynote investment panel and an update from the gas regulatory commission on feedstocks for petrochemicals.

As well as being held under the patronage of the Minister of Energy, the Summit is also supported by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and sponsored by international technology giants Thyssen Krupp Industrial Solutions, Axens Group and DuPont.

The Summit will see 250 key stakeholders and international technology companies gather at the Fairmont Heliopolis and Towers Hotel in Cairo, February 15th – 16th 2016.
