Private sector companies will be invited to bid in a new tender to construct solar projects with a combined capacity of 550 MW, Al Mal reports, citing sources in the Energy Ministry.

The combined cost of the plants is expected to come at EGP 9.5 bn (c. USD 600 mn), the sources said without disclosing the plants’ planned locations or the expected timeline for the tender. The plants will be implemented under a build-own-operate framework, they added.

Meanwhile, Acwa Power has tapped Sterling and Wilson for construction works at its Kom Ombo plant, the local press reports.

The Saudi-based energy company had previously contracted India’s Mahindra Susten for its USD 165 mn, 200 MW project.
