Adding 600 mmcf/day by end 2018, says source.

The Ministry of Petroleum has agreed with the foreign partners to accelerate the development of the gas projects to link them to national grid before deadlines to turn into an exporting energy and re-fire the Damietta Liquefaction Plant and supply 250 million cubic feet (MMCF) of gas per day to Jordan.

About 600 mmcf/day from new wells will be linked to production by the end of this year, according to a source in the sector.

The source explained that these wells will contribute to offset the rate of natural decline of domestic production, and will contribute to increase production to about 6.9 bcf/day by the end of this year.

He added that work is underway in the second phase of the West Delta gas fields project (North Alexandria/Western Mediterranean), at higher rates than approved by the plan.

He explained that the project includes the fields of Fayoum, Giza, and Raven, in addition to completing the two pipelines to transfer gas from the Fayoum and Giza wells to processing facilities. The production is set to start before the end of the year at 500 mmcf/day.

The source said that the Raven field development is ongoing, along with the treatment plant to process the gas from the field, which will kick off by 2019 at 350 mmcf/ day.

He added that the sector has achieved a number of gas discoveries during the past period, including the Nooros field, whose production has reached 1.2 mmcf/ day.

A committee formed by a decision of the prime minister, headed by the minister of petroleum and includes a number of ministries concerned with the transformation of Egypt into a logistic centre, is tasked with following this national project and provide all the support for its implementation.

Egypt has many elements that enable it to transform into a regional centre for energy trading. The unique geographic location, which is the middle of the producing countries that are rich in energy sources and major consuming countries, is an important element that cannot be overlooked, but is not sufficient alone, and we support it by establishing a strong infrastructure in the field of oil and gas.
